Sue Smart throwing her arms in the air by the sea, loving life in her 50s

Hi! Welcome to my blog.

I’ve been collecting stories all of my life – not just my own, but those of many others – and now that I’m lucky enough to be in my 50s, I want to share some of those stories and the stories that are yet to come.

By the time we get to this age, there’s a good chance many of us have weathered some mighty storms – we’ve grazed our knees, broken our hearts (and maybe a few bones!), burnt-out (or close to it), faced some sort of health crisis (or supported a loved one who has), and probably lost some family, friends – and ourselves – along the way.

Through it all, we’ve found the strength and courage to rise above our challenges and continue to put one foot in front of the other, in the ever-hopeful belief that one day we will feel better or happier again, and if we’re lucky – we do.

Gifts like having more time to travel and to explore

Being in our 50s, and beyond, is not just about the extra wrinkles, poor sleeping, stiff joints and occasional memory lapses – our ‘golden’ age brings us many gifts too. Gifts like having more time to travel, to explore, wisdom gained over a lifetime of experiences, feeling more centred in ourselves, knowing the value of simple joys and appreciating what it is to love and be loved, in its many glorious forms.

All the fun things we’ve got ahead of us!

… And it’s certainly not only about looking back! We’re much too young for that! It’s about a new era, the here and now, and all the fun things we’ve got ahead of us! Heck, I still feel in my 20s, even if my body parts shows otherwise!

It’s a beautiful, awesome and precious planet on which we live, with boundless opportunities for adventure, learning, sharing and giving something back. Not to mention it’s full of inspiring, brave, funny and wonderful people! And I want to explore this planet, meet many of those people, do lots of fun stuff and write about it all!

Something to make you laugh, think, feel – and to stir your curiosity

Whatever the reason you’ve landed here, I hope you’ll find something to make you laugh, think, feel, to stir your curiosity and maybe something even deeper – to keep you coming back and sharing in my journey.

As I move through my 50s, I’m very aware the clock is ticking and I don’t want to waste a moment. Through sharing my journey in ‘Loving life in my 50s’, I hope to inspire you to take even the smallest of steps towards finding greater fulfilment. I think it’s vital we’re all reminded how important it is to have fun and laughter in our lives and to keep on dreaming and making plans, no matter how many candles we need on the cake!

If you’ve lost your way for one reason or another, I’d like to offer hope that you too, can again feel nourished, fulfilled, joyous and happy. From my own experience, I know it’s not always easy – and I’m still on that journey. I don’t think life necessarily gets easier as we get older, as new challenges do present themselves, often from left-field! But look how far we’ve come from those angst-ridden teenage years!

Curve balls aside, I want to live until I’m 103! Even at that ripe old age, I doubt I’ll have time to squeeze in all I want to do with my life! But believe me … I’m going to try!

So without further ado, I invite you to join me as I do my best in ‘loving life in my 50s!’

Happy reading.

Sue
